ILLINOIS- A body found floating in the Illinois River was identified as missing graduate student Jelani Day on Thursday.
Day’s mysterious death is under investigation. A medical examiner used dental records to identify him.
It’s unclear how Day died, according to the coroner.
The 25-year-old student was last seen alive at a cannabis dispensary on Aug. 24, police say.
Day was reported missing on Aug. 25 by his family after they were unable to contact him and he didn’t show up to his classes for several days.
According to a ‘DateLine: Missing In America’ flyer, Day was last heard of on Aug. 23, when he called his family and texted his program director about an assignment.
On Aug. 26, Illinois police found his white 2010 Chrysler 300 in a wooded area in Peru, Illinois, with his the blue cap he was seen wearing and his shirt inside.
