LAS VEGAS- The mother of a missing boy, whose body was found on a hiking trial last month has been arrested and charged.
The boy’s mother, Samantha Moreno, 35, was arrested on an open murder warrant for the boy’s death, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Department.
Police identified the boy as 7-year-old Liam Husted from San Jose on Thursday. His body was discovered by a hikers near mountain trial on May 28.
The boy was seen alive with his mother in Cali on May 26 in Moreno’s vehicle, police say.
During a news conference on Monday, homicide Lt. Ray Spencer says the vehicle was abandoned the day after Liam’s body was found. Moreno was also seen checking into a hotel on May 31.
The boy’s father reported him missing on June 1, after not seeing or hearing from him. Police also received a call from a friend of the family, who said the sketch of “Little Zio Doe” resembled the missing boy.
DNA from the boys home in Cali confirmed his identity.
Police don’t have a motive for the killing.
