HOUSTON- The man accused of killing rapper Takeoff had his bond reduced during a court appearance Wednesday.
Patrick Clarks bond was originally set to $2 million earlier this month but it was reduced to $1 million after his defense attorneys argued that the $2 million was excessive and goes against the Texas Constitution, reports KHOU-TV.
His defense also argued that Clark’s family couldn’t afford the $2 million bond amount.
The Texas Constitution mandates that all prisoners shall be provided a bail that is sufficient but not excessive, according to KHOU-TV legal analyst Carmen Roe.
Clark’s lawyers said if he were released from jail on bond, they would work with the judge’s request for GPS technology and that would notify the court of any violation or tampering of bond orders and a financial background affidavit, according to KHOU.
His defense is asking the judge when bond conditions are met, that Clark be awarded a $300,000 bond.
Takeoff, a former member of the Migos rap group was killed during a heated dice game on November 1 at a Houston Bowling Alley in front of his uncle and fellow Migo rapper Quavo.
