OKLAHOMA- An 8-year-old boy is being a hailed a hero after saving his choking classmate and for rescuing a woman from a fire all in on the same day.
Davyon Johnson’s heroism began when he performed the Heimlich maneuver on his classmate who was choking on Dec. 9.
His classmate had been using his mouth to open a bottle of water when the cap became stuck in his throat, the school’s principal told Enid News.
Johnson wasted no time, rushing over to the student, wrapping his arms around the boy and thrusting until the boy stopped choking.
Johnson said he learned the Heimlich maneuver by watching YouTube.
“He has always indicated that he wants to be an EMT,” his principal told Enid News. “So he got to put that desire into action and immediately saved that young man.”
Later on, that day, Johnson was walking home from school when he saw a fire coming out of a house and a disabled woman on the porch unable to get away.
Johnson once again, leaped into action and helped the woman walk away from the blazing fire.
Local law enforcement named Johnson an honorary police officer and honorary sheriff’s deputy during the Muskogee Public Schools Board meeting Tuesday night.
He was also presented with a heroism award at his school.
