Carlee Russell Convicted Of Faking Her Own Abduction, Faces 1 Year In Prison

ALABAMA – Carlee Russell was found guilty Wednesday of faking her own kidnapping.

Russell, 26, a nursing student was convicted of filing a false police report and falsely reporting seeing a baby crawling on an Alabama highway before she was “abducted” by a white male.

Russell pleaded entered a not-guilty plea for her crimes, despite her admitting to the hoax weeks after law enforcement launched search parties for her and the imaginary toddler.

A judge recommended a one-year prison sentence and a restitution payment of $17, 874, and two fines of $831 each.

Russell is planning on appealing the judge’s decision.

Russell called 911 on July 13 to report seeing a baby crawling along the side of Interstate 459 in Hoover but vanished when police arrived at the scene.

Two days later, she showed up at her family’s house and initially told police that she was abducted by “white man with orange hair.”

Police say she also searched for the kidnap-themed action film “Taken” before she disappeared.

Russell has never given an explanation as to where she for the 49 hours that she disappeared or why she faked her own abduction.
