ATLANTA- A college basketball player who was entering in the NBA draft has been charged with murder.
20-year-old Teshaun Hightower was arrested on Saturday according to Atlanta Journal-Constitution, in connection to the murder of 24-year-old Devante Anthony Long, who was shot and killed on April 8th.
According to authorities, Hightower was with a group of six men, that included himself and his brother when they confronted Long in a breezeway. An arrest warrant states that the victim’s girlfriend witnessed Hightower holding a gun, and then heard gunshots.
Long was shot to death.
Hightower’s attorney told ESPN.com that”Teshaun’s brother actually fired the weapon and fired in self-defense. The victim came out of the house with a gun in his hand and turned his weapon toward Teshaun to shoot him. That’s why the victim was shot himself.”
Hightower has been charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, battery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Hightower was playing ball for Tulane University, but was cut from the team on Sunday.
