COMPTON – Rapper Eazy-E was honored by the city of Compton Wednesday.
The rapper was honored when the city renamed the 100 block of Auto Drive South after him, naming the stretch Eazy Street.
Eazy’s son Eric Darnell told reporters at the ceremony “My father finally got what he deserves, a monumental street in the city he put on the map,” adding “It’s been a long time coming, but then again, I always say it’s God’s timing.”
Rapper from the group Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony were also at the event.
Eazy-E, whose real name is Eric Wright, is best known for being a member of the landmark and controversial hip-hop group NWA, along with Dr, Dre, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Arabian Prince, MC Ren and DJ Yella.
He later became the founder and owner of Ruthless Records and went on to be a solo artist.
Eazy-E died in 1995 at the age of 30 from AIDS- induced pneumonia.
