Couple accused of locking boy in closet for 16 hours a day

FLORIDA- A couple is being accused of locking up a boy for up to 16 hours a day as a form of discipline.

John Hernandez, 41, and Natasha Dabbs, 37, were arrested on Sunday after authorities went to their home to locate a missing boy, who they found hiding in the home, WFLA has reported.

Police returned to the home to investigate a possible case of child abuse.

The boy, whose identity is being withheld, told deputies that the couple had been handcuffing him and forcing him to stand in a closet for about 16 hours a day for the past few weeks.

Hernandez admitted to detectives that he locked the boy up in a closet from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. to punish him for behavioral issues.

Dabbs also admitted to authorities that the abuse had been taking place since Christmas.

Hernandez was charged with aggravated child abuse, and Dabbs is facing charges for neglect and failure to report child abuse.

It’s unclear what the relationship is between the boy and and the couple.
