MINNEAPOLIS- A jury has reached a verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin, a former police officer charged in the death of George Floyd.
Chauvin, 45, was charged with second-and third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.
Chauvin was seen on cellphone footage kneeling on Floyd’s neck for almost 9 minutes, killing him.
Police were responding to call about Floyd allegedly using a counterfeit $20 bill last Memorial Day weekend.
The jury heard testimonies from witnesses at the scene, medical professionals and more.
Floyd’s death sparked outrage in the black community, once again, as an unarmed black man was slaughtered in front of the entire world in a video that went viral.
Chauvin is only facing 12 years or 150 months in prison of he’s convicted.
