The Yonkers rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons has battled with substance abuse since the age of 8, when he was first introduced to Marijuana by a family member, as he told Dr. Phil back in 2013.
He also told Dr. Phil that when he was 14, he had smoked a joint which was laced with cocaine, and according to him, “That’s when it started.” He added “It was something that drew me in, and trapped me, and just had a hold on me for a long, long time.”
He overdosed back in 2016 in Yonkers, New York. He reportably collapsed in front of the Ramada Inn on Feb, 8th. He had no pulse and wasn’t breathing. Police attempted to give Simmons CPR before a paramedic injected him with Narcan, which is an anti-opioid medication. His rep said he had an asthma attack and denied that he had overdosed.
A male friend of his who was on the scene allegedly told police that DMX had taken a white substance before collapsing..
He had just signed a deal with Def Jam, along with Swizz Beatz.
