VIRGINIA- Drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s wife was arrested Monday on international drug trafficking charges, federal prosecutors say.
Emma Coronel Aispuro, 31, was arrested in Virginia and charged with participating in a conspiracy to distribute cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana for importation into the US, the New York Daily News.
Prosecutors say that between 2012 and 2014, while Guzman was hiding from mexican authorities, Aispuro allegedly “relayed messages” on his behalf according to an arrest affidavit.
When El Chapo was finally arrested by mexican authorities, Aispuro allegedly continued to deliver messages she got from him.
Aispuro is being accused of helping El Chapo escape not once but twice, which included his famous 2015 escape.
Guzman is currently serving a life sentence in a high-profile Brooklyn prison.
