HOUSTON- A man has been charged with the murder of his ex-girlfriend who vanished in September.
Emmishe Kirby, 29, disappeared on September 18, 2020. Her body was discovered on Oct. 3, in the Bear Creek Park area of Houston. She had a gunshot wound to her head and had been strangled.
Prosecutors say Kirby’s ex-boyfriend, Javon Gilbert, 30, lived with her up until her death. They had allegedly broke up after Kirby accused Gilbert of sexually assaulting, Abc13 has reported.
Police say surveillance video from Kirby’s apartment complex shows Kirby getting her car, with Gilbert getting into the passenger side. Authorities then say that they both went to a gas station and a restaurant before returning to Kirby’s home.
Police believe that Gilbert killed Kirby inside of her apartment. Surveillance video shows him carrying a heavy object, which is believed to have been Kirby’s body, to her vehicle at 1:40 a.m. on September 19. He then drove off and returned an hour late.
Gilbert was also seen taking several trips from Kirby’s apartment to a dumpster.
Gilbert was arrested on Jan. 3o, and charged with murder and tampering with evidence.
