Ex-cop indicted for driving into alleged looter with police car

PORTLAND- A former police officer has been indicted, after driving an unmarked police car into an alleged looter, that was running away from a skate store this past summer during a protest.

Scott Groshong, who retired from the police force in August, is now facing charges of third-degree assault, official misconduct and failure to perform the duties of a driver, The Oregonian reports.

Groshong, who was working undercover with his partner on June 15, was caught on cellphone footage by a witness, speeding, in pursuit of a man who had allegedly stolen a helmet from a skate store.

As the alleged looter was crossing a street, Groshong drove into him, knocking the man off of his feet, but he was able to get back up, running away.

The alleged looter, whose identity is unknown, was arrested a few blocks away, and charged with burglary and criminal mischief. Those charges were later dismissed.

Groshong denies driving into the alleged looter, saying the victim threw himself in front of the unmarked police car, but authorities had enough evidence to charge him despite his fake story.
