DELAWARE- An ex-daycare employee pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and child abuse charges for the death of a 4-month-old girl.
A grand jury originally indicted Dejoynay Ferguson, 20, last July in the death of an infant she suffocated to death and abuse involving other children from July to Sept. of 2019 in the daycare she was employed at, reports News.
An investigation found that Ferguson had picked up the 4-month-old up in Sept. of 2019, put her hands around the infant’s throat and choked her until she was unresponsive. She then placed the infant back inside a crib.
Video footage from the daycare shows Ferguson waited 20 minutes before seeking help from other employees at the daycare.
Ferguson told that she grabbed the infant because she was being “fussy” and wouldn’t stop crying.
also found that Ferguson had abused other children in the daycare that involved babies whose ages ranged from 1 month to 15 months-old.
Ferguson is facing 27 to life in prison.
