MEXICO- Former NFL player Sergio Brown was arrested and charged in connection with his mother’s death, after partying in Mexico days after she was killed, police said.
Brown was deported from Mexico on Tuesday and taken into custody near San Diego on an arrested warrant issued in Illinois, the Mayhood Police Department announce, according to multiple reports.
Police are working on extraditing Brown from San Diego to Chicago, where his mother was found dead last month.
Myrtle Brown, 73, was discovered dead after relatives contacted police when they were unable to contact her or Sergio.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Myrtle died from injuries related to an assault and ruled her death a homicide.
Days later, Sergio, posted a video from an Instagram account going on a rant about the F.B.I. kidnapping his mother, as he was shirtless in Mexico and clearly mocking his mother’s death, singing songs from the children’s movie “Dory.”
He’s been charged with first-degree murder.
