DENVER, Colorado- The father of a 7-year-old boy whose body was found encased in a storage unit has been charged with his murder.
The Denver district attorney’s office charged 39-year-old Leland Pankey on Thursday with child abuse resulting in death and tampering with a dead body.
7-year-old’s Caden Pankey’s mother, Elisha Pankey, cooperated with police and admitted that she was aware of his father starving and physically abusing him.
She told police that they also kept their son in a dog carrier like an animal.
Court records also state that Elisha told a fellow inmate that she and Leland had Caden inside of the kennel one night, and he was crying that he was hot because there was a blanket covering the carrier along with being thirsty.
The inmate said that Elisha told her that Caden was dead the following morning from suffocating. It was then that she, along with the father took Caden, who was still inside of the carrier to a storage unit, where they poured concrete over his body.
An autopsy revealed that Caden was starved and beaten, as his body was severely emaciated and he had wounds to his head, limbs and chest.
Elisha Pankey faces charges of child abuse resulting in death and abuse of a corpse in his death.
