FLORIDA- A mother was charged after leaving her infant in a bathtub while she was painting her nails, Miami police said.
Alyssa Carolyn Jimie, 22, was charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child under 18 in the death of her 7-month-old son on May 20.
Police say Jimmie told them she left her 3-year-old son with her infant in a bathtub and wasn’t concerned because there was a missing drain plug. After letting the water run, she left to her garage to paint her nails, reports Local10.
When she returned to the tub, about 10 minutes later, the tub was filled with water and her infant son was found floating in the water unresponsive.
Jimmie said she performed CPR, went to a neighbor’s home and called 911.
The infant was taken to a hospital and doctors were able to restart his heart, but he was presumed brain dead before dying three days later.
The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the infant died from accidental drowning.
