FLORIDA- A teenager was shot and killed while filming a TikTok video by her friend who used a gun as a prop, police said.
Aniyah Womack,19, was shot in her abdomen in the early morning of May 24 while filming a TikTok video at an apartment complex with her friend, according to an arrest warrant.
Womack was rushed to Jacksonville Hospital with a gunshot wound and later died from her injuries.
For months, police made no arrests and Womacks family searched for answers, as to who she was with before she was fatally shot.
Last week, 20-year-old Mariah Clayton was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after police said they identified her as a suspect in the alleged accidental shooting.
A woman later told police that Clayton had called her and Womack into a bedroom where she was holding an “all-black rifle,” according to the arrest warrant, the Huffington Post reported.
The woman then told police that she advised Clayton not to play with the rifle and added that Womack began recording a TikTok in which Clayton would have “popped out” of a bathroom shower with the weapon, according to the arrest warrant.
Shortly afterwards, a man went into the bathroom and attempted to take the rifle away from Clayton, the woman told police.
Clayton allegedly pulled away as the man said, “let me check something,” and the rifle discharged. She was allegedly in control of the rifle and the man didn’t touch the firearm, documents state.
