ORLANDO, FLORIDA- Former Michigan State and NBA player Adreian Payne was killed while intervening in a domestic dispute, according to police.
Payne, 31, was shot on Monday and pronounced dead at an Orlando hospital.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Payne and his girlfriend went over to a female friend’s house to help her as she was allegedly in an abusive relationship with her boyfriend, Lawrence Dority, the suspect who killed Payne.
Dority, who stood at the scene until police arrived, told them that he thought Payne had a gun, which he didn’t.
Dority, 31, pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder with a firearm on Tuesday.
