Lil Kim at the 2019 BET Awards show

2019 BET Awards winners list

The 19th annual BET Awards show aired live on Sunday night from the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles with Regina Hall as the host.

There were performances by Cardi B & Offset who opened up the show, Yung Miami from the group City Girls, Lizzo and Lil Nas X came out with Billy Ray Cyrus to perform ‘Old Town Road’ which had the entire theater singing every word.

The best parts I believe was when Mary J. Blige performed her hits after Rihanna presented her with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Many were surprised when Method Man came out and Lil Kim came out (and I got taken 20 years back, which was amazing.)

Tyler Perry gave an emotional speech after receiving the Ultimate Icon Award for his work as a producer, actor, screenwriter, author and playwright. Perry reminded many that instead of being focused on what’s wrong in this world of heightened racism, many, especially in the black community, should “own their way.”

Finally, rapper Nipsey Hussle who was killed several months ago was awarded with the Humanitarian Award. His mother was there to receive the award, along with his father, sister and daughter’s. Nipsey made a huge difference and impact in his community when he was alive and still is. He gave back to those that were once in his place, before he achieved fame and his humanitarian work will never be forgotten.

Dj Khaled, John Legend performed “Higher” which featured Nipsey, along with a choir and a backdrop of clouds..
