Fulton County Inmate Eaten Alive By Bugs In Jail Cell Died By Homicide

FULTON COUNTY, GEORGIA- Lashawn Thompson, an inmate at the Fulton County Jail, who died last year, died by homicide, according to an autopsy.

Attorneys for Thompson have released his autopsy reports.

Forensic pathologist Dr. Roger Mitchell listed Thompson’s cause of death as severe body insect infestation, complications due to severe neglect and major contributing causes as untreated schizophrenia, malnourishment and dehydration.

Thompsons manner of death has been ruled a homicide.

Thompson, 35, was awaiting trial for a June 2022 misdemeanor simple battery charge.

Three months after being placed in the psychiatric wing, jail officials discovered Thompson rotting away, eaten by bugs in his filthy jail cell.

Public records obtained by Harper’s law office show that detention officers and medical staff at the jail noticed Thompson’s deterioration, which included an infection from bedbugs and lice on his torso while he was still alive and never sought medical attention.

Atlanta Police Department and Georgia Bureau of Investigation are conducting separate investigations into the jail and Thompson’s death.
