Group of thieves pretended to be Wu-Tang; duped Hotel for $45,000 and more

GOERGIA- A group of men who pretended to be member’s of the rap group Wu-Tang Clan duped Hotel’s out of thousands of dollars and more.

According to The New York Post, prosecutor’s say that the wanna-be’s drove around in a Rolls-Royce, scamming hotels out of more than $100,000.

The group of men also pretended to be rapper’s signed with Jay-Z’s label Roc Nation.

The men duped Atlanta’s Georgian Terrace Hotel for $45,000, and the Hyatt Regency Atlanta for their tab of $39,000.  The hotel actually informed the F.B.I..

On top of scamming those two hotels, the thieves also duped a car rental company for the Rolls-Royce they used, in order to make themselves appear as if they were famous. Prosecutors say the car rental company lost out on $60,000.

Wait, there’s more folks..

In a complaint, the fake rapper’s also scammed two recording studios out of $17,000. They used a fake credit card and a stolen one.

Their scheme fell apart when the group attempted to reserve 10 rooms, that were supposed to be booked for Roc Nation at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Augusta, but a very smart employee contacted Roc Nation themselves, and were told that they had no connection to the scammer’s.

Police showed up at the hotel arresting Barnes-Burpo. There were other men with them, but police didn’t arrest them.

Aaron Barnes-Burpo and Walker Washington have been arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.
