ALABAMA- A woman shared horrific photos of her brother, which she said is the result of an Alabama prison failing to provide him with medical attention.
Kassie Vaughan’s post about her brother, Kastellio Vaughan, has been shared 16,000 times on Facebook.
In the photos, Kastellio can be seen malnourished, with his ribs showing. In another disturbing photo, he’s seen slumped up against a wall, appearing to be out of consciousness.
“My brothers health is rapidly declining. As you can see in these photos, he is extremely malnourished. In these particular photos he cannot walk nor stand he is weak and vulnerable.”
She wrote that she had last seen her brother in July and that he was “in good condition.”
She became concerned when her brother sent her the photos on Wednesday that said “HELP”.
Kastellio, 31, is an inmate at Elmore Correctional Facility, and is serving a 20-year sentence for charges of Burglary, breaking and entering in a vehicle and other charges, according to PEOPLE.
Kassie said that as of Friday, she, and her family haven’t received any update on Kastellio, but they have hired national civil rights attorney, Lee Merritt.
Merritt released a statement saying that Vaugn has lost at least 75 pounds in one month, after getting surgery in his stomach for his gunshot wounds last month.
Merritt believes that Vaughn was released from the hospital and placed in general popular right away.
The Alabama Department of Corrections said in a statement to AL.com that Kastellio was receiving appropriate care.
There is still an ongoing investigation.
