Mother & daughter accused of selling bodies at their funeral home

COLORADO- A woman and her daughter who run a funeral home are being accused of selling body parts and bodies.

Shirley Koch, 66, and her daughter Megan Hess, 43, were charged on Tuesday with six counts of mail fraud and three counts of illegal transportation of hazardous materials.

This is according to US Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado, who say that the duo were allegedly running a macabre scheme at their Sunset Funeral home.

In 2009, the duo created a nonprofit donor services organization called “Sunset Funeral Foundation”, which was a “body-broker service” that was operating out of the funeral home, doing business as Donor services, according to federal prosecutors and the New York Post.

Both mom & daughter went again the wishes of 12 families. Selling body parts and even bodies. They allegedly went as far as sending bodies and body parts that tested positive for diseases like HIV, hepatitis B and C, and certified them free of these diseases.

Some families even thought that they were given the cremations of their family members, but they weren’t.

They even charged these families $1000 for the cremations.

Both are facing 135 years in prison.
