James Gandolfini’s son, Michael Gandolfini, will playing the role of young Tony from the “Sopranos” in the prequel film “The Many Saints of Newark.”
The movie will be based on the deadly Newark riots that happened between African American and Italian mobsters in the 1960’s.
Michael Gandolfini, of course had to audition for this role and he’s not new to acting. He’s best known for his role in HBO’s ‘The Deuce”, where he plays joe, the son of Bobby Dwyer.
The film will be directed by Alan Taylor, who has worked on several episodes of “The Sopranos”, Thor: The Dark World and HBO’s “Game Of Throne”. David Chase will also co-produce and co-write the prequel.
The role of Tony Soprano was played by the late actor James Gandolfini from 1999 to 2007. James suddenly died in 2013 of a heart attack.
The prequel will star , Vera Farmiga, Alessandro Nivola Jon Bernthal, Billy Magnussen and Corey Stoll.
