BRAZIL- Legendary Jiu-jitsu fighter Leandro Lo was fatally shot Sunday at a concert in Sao Paulo by an officer, according to reports.
Lo’s death was confirmed by his lawyer. He said the 33-year-old fighter died after he was declared brain-dead from the shooting, according to aa report by MMA Fighting.
Lo was killed by Police Officer Henrique Otávio Oliveira Velozo, during a confrontation, reports the outlet.
Witnesses at the scene said Velozo grabbed a bottle from Lo’s table and the fighter took him down and held him there, according to a police report.
After both men were separated, Velozo pulled a gun out and shot Lo in the forehead.
Lo has won eight World Championships titles ever since he began to make a name for himself in 2011. Just earlier this year, Lo won another World Championship in California.
It’s unclear if the officer will be charged for Lo’s death.
