Judge Orders Rapper BG To Turn In Lyrics For Approval While On Parole

NEW ORLEANS – A judge ruled that rapper B.G. will have to turn over his rap lyrics to be approved, before he can release them, according to a report.

The former Hot Boy must submit his lyrics for approval before his release as a condition of his parole, according to The Guardian.

The judge compromised with prosecutors, who wanted B.G. to barred from putting out any music “promoting and glorifying future gun violence/murder.” Instead, the judge ruled that he must turn his lyrics over to the government prior to putting out any songs he planned to use them in. He was also may be asked to change them, if they fall short of “the goals of rehabilitation.”

The rapper, who rapped alongside Manny Fresh, Lil Wayne and founder Birdman in the rap group Hot Boys was arrested in 2009 after he was pulled over by New Orleans police, who found 3 guns after a search of his SUV.

He pleaded guilty in 2011 to two counts of possessing of a firearm and one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice, resulting in him being sentenced to serve 14 years in prison.

He was released last Sept. but was arrested for violating his parole after he performed at a concert in Las Vegas with rapper Boosie, who is a convicted felon. B.G. is not allowed to associate with known felons as part of his parole conditions.

Many are upset, saying B.G.’s lyrics is the pure definition of his freedom of speech as an artist and shouldn’t be used against him in a court of law.
