FLORIDA – A judge has set a date for rapper YNW Melly’s double-murder re-trial.
The rapper appeared in court on Monday, wearing shackles, as he heard Judge Martin Fein set a new trial date of September 10, 2025. In terms of the most recent tampering case, Fein set a pre-trial meeting for December 5, 2024.
Melly’s first double-murder trial ended in a mistrial last Summer.
A judge ruled in January to not show a promotional video about Melly’s life as evidence, but prosecutors filed an appeal, which prolonged the case for several months.
The 20-minute documentary is based on Melly’s rise to fame, which was recorded before the deaths of his friends. The movies allegedly show the rapper holding a gun. He also mentions the deaths of his two former best friends.
YNW Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons, is accused of fatally shooting his two best friends, Chris “Juvie” Thomas and Anthony “Sakchaser” Williams in 2018 inside of a vehicle and making it appear as a drive-by, authorities said.
