What a night is was at the VMA’s last night in New York, especially for the latino community. Jennifer Lopez took home the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award, making her the first latin to do so!
Jennifer Lopez has been working her real Puerto Rican ass since the days of “In Living Color” as a dancer, then rose to fame as a singer and an actress. Three jobs that many people told her she wouldn’t be able to fulfill.
J.Lo not only made Bronx natives proud, but also Puerto Ricans and of course her fans.
J.Lo is the first female to ever have a #1 hit song on the charts and a #1 movie at the box office. Her performance last night brought the house down as she took it back with her songs, even bringing rapper Ja Rule to join her on stage for “I’m real”.
J.Lo wasn’t the only latin to bring home a VMA. Camila Cabello won for Video of the year for her hit “Havana” and for “Artist of the year.” Cardi B had 7 nominations, but still took home 3 VMA’s for “Best new artist”, “Best collab” for J.Lo’s “Dinero” along with Dj Khaled and for her song “I like it like that” featuring Bad Bunny and J.Balvin. Last but not least J.Balvin won a VMA for his song “Mi Gente.
What an amazing night it was for the latino community to see so many our favorite artist take home an award while representing our latin roots.
