MIAMI- Rapper Lil Wayne pleaded guilty on Friday to a federal charge that he was in possession of a weapon in 2019 during a search of his private jet while being a convicted felon.

Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter, entered his guilty plea remotely.

The rapper’s sentencing date is set for Jan. 28. He faces up to 10 years in prison, but he may receive less time than that.

Lil Wayne is currently on $250,000 bail, and he had to surrender his passport.

The 38-year-old rapper was in possession of a .45 caliber, gold-plated handgun and six rounds of ammunition after he arrived in Miami on Dec. 23 from California. He acknowledged that the guns were his to police.

Authorities also found small amounts of cocaine, oxycodone and ecstasy inside of the rapper’s luggage, but he wasn’t charged for possession of drugs.
