Lollapalooza Secruity Guard Made False Mass Shooting Threat To Leave Work Early, Police

CHICAGO- A security guard who worked for Chicago’s Lollapalooza music festival last weekend is accused of making fake mass shooting threats in order to leave work early, authorities said.

Janya Williams, 18, allegedly sent her supervisor a text message via TextNow Friday afternoon, which read “Mass shooting at 4pm location Lollapalooza. We have 150 targets”, according to the New York Post.

The supervisor contacted the police and the F.B.I. got involved.

When the supervisor notified Williams and other other guards of the threat, Williams said she had received the same threat on Facebook.

After the supervisor asked Williams to show a screenshot of the threat, she allegedly made a fake Facebook profile under the name “Ben Scott” and posted a message on Facebook which read “Massive shooting at Lollapalooza Grant Park 6:00 p.m.” and then sent a screenshot of it to the supervisor, prosecutors allege, according to the Post.

The F.B.I. were able to trace the TextNow message back to Williams IP address and iCloud.

She admitted to authorities that she made the false threats “because she wanted to leave work early”.

Williams was arrested and charged with making a false terrorism threat, which is a felony.
