Macy’s employee beaten in viral video wants leniency for attacker

MICHIGAN- A Macy’s employee who was seen on a viral video, getting beaten by a customer is now requesting that his attacker gets leniency.

18-year-old Damire Palmer, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to assaulting the Macy’s employee on June 15th, reports abc12.

Palmer had to take the stand as part of his plea deal.

During the stand Palmer told prosecutors “I asked him a question about some clothes,” adding “I asked him about the jacket type that I was about to get.”

Palmer said that the employee then answered him, but as he was leaving, his brother told him that he heard the employee, who’s a store manager, calling him the “N” word.

Palmer told the court that he has since learned that his brother lied about the victim calling him that racial slur.

“Why would your brother do that?” the assistant prosecutor asked him. “I wouldn’t know. I honestly wouldn’t,” Palmer replied.

Palmer then learned on the stand that the victim is requesting for leniency.

“Basically, you beat this guy so bad he was quite bloody correct?” the assistant prosecutor asked. “Yes,” Palmer said. “And did you know that he has agreed that you should be treated as a youthful offender even though you beat on him like that?” “No, I did not know that,” Palmer responded.

As part of Palmer’s plea deal, his felony charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, would be dropped from his record if he completes his sentence.

Palmer is facing probation, or up to 10 years in prison.
