ALABAMA- Police have arrested a man in the case of a missing mother.
Shanon Demar Ryan, 38, was arrested by federal agents on Saturday.
Demar has claimed on his Facebook, that he was one of the last people to have seen 21-year-old Leila Cavett, who disappeared in July. Police say that he lied to them about knowing her whereabouts.
Ryan proclaimed his innocence in a video, saying that he had reunited with Cavett, meeting up with her in a parking lot that was located in Hollywood, Florida. He said they both smoked some weed, and went to a gas station afterwards.
He claims that he spent the rest of the day with Cavett eating, and hanging out at the beach.
Ryan then added, that later on that day, both of them had returned to the same gas station, where a vehicle with two males pulled up to Cavett, asking her if she “partied”.
Ryan claims that he witnessed Cavett leaving her vehicle, and hoping inside of the car with the two males, along with her son. She had allegedly just met them several minutes before.
“It’s some guys in a car that she talking to,” he said in his video, adding “Leila got her and her son and got in the car with those guys.”
Police haven’t charged Ryan with the disappearance of Cavett, but they did charge him with 2 counts of lying to a federal officer. He’s currently being held without a bond.
Cavett’s son was found wandering in a parking lot at an apartment complex. It took police days to identify the toddler, who was found in a diaper and just a shirt.
Cavett’s family says that she left from Georgia to Florida, towards the end of July, to meet with a man that she had met on an online dating site.
Cavett’s White Chevy pickup truck was found abandoned at a Walmart parking lot, days after she went missing.
