MICHIGAN- A man has been charged in the strangling death of his ex-girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter, police said.
Rashad Trice, 26, was charged Friday with murder, kidnapping, stabbing the girl’s mother, Symari Cole, and sexually assaulting her.
Trice allegedly kidnapped Wynter Cole Smith, 1, after attacking Cole, who ran out of the home, leaving her daughter and 1-year-old son alone with him, police said.
On Monday morning, an Amber Alert was issued after Trice and the toddler disappeared. Police believe that he took off with Smith in her mother’s car.
Trice used a pink cellphone charging cord and strangled the toddler, whose body was found on Wednesday in a Detroit alley, the FBI said. Pieces of the cord were also found inside of Trice’s car.
Trice was arrested Monday after a police chase, which ended with him crashing.
Trice told police that he had got into an argument with the toddler’s mother about money before they both began stabbing each other but denied kidnapping Smith.
If convicted, he faces life in prison and is eligible for death penalty.
