IOWA- A man has been charged after confessing to killing a woman who was reported missing six months ago, police say.
James Shiloh Klever, 46, was arrested and charged Tuesday with first-degree murder in the disappearance and presumed death of Rachel Reuter, 30, the Sheriff’s office of Polk County said in a statement.
Reuter was reported missing by her father on June 16.
“Investigators believe that during the early morning hours of June 13, 2021, Mr. Klever killed Ms. Reuter at the Bondurant residence, although her remains have not been located,” the statement said.
Reuter was last seen alive with Klever on June 12, as they were leaving a Super 8 Motel, reports the Iowa City Press-Citizen.
On June 12, Klever allegedly told police that he met Reuter on a dating website, and that he dropped Reuter off at an address he couldn’t remember.
Klever’s son allegedly told his mother that his father had killed Reuter, according to an arrest warrant. Klever then told police that he tried to stab Reuter but beat her with a bat instead, the Press-Citizen reports.
Klever allegedly told his son that he disposed of Reuter’s body in Northern Missouri.
Reuter’s body has never been found.
