TORONTO- An Ontario Superior Court jury found a man guilty of murdering Toronto rapper Smoke Dawg.
Abdulkadir Handule was found guilty of two counts of second-degree murder in the 2018 fatal shooting of Smoke Dawg and manager Ernest Modekwe. Handule was 22 at the time of the shooting, reports CBC.
Handule is set to be sentenced on May 27.
Second-degree murder charges in Canada come with a mandatory sentence of of life in prison and no parole for 10 years.
Smoke Dawg, whose real name is Jahvante Smart, was 21 years old and Modekwe was 21 years old when they were both shot to death on June 30, 2018.
Smart was shot in his neck and legs and Modekwe was shot in his neck. A bystander was also shot but survived.
Handule was a rapper who went by the stage name 21Neat. He was arrested a year after the shooting.
