NORTH CAROLINA- A man who was convicted of murdering a toddler was beaten to death by a group of other inmates, according to authorities.
Semajs Short, 24, was attacked at the Bertie Correction Institution Tuesday afternoon, according to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.
In a statement, an NCDPS spokesperson said Short was attacked in the housing area inside of the prison. Prison first-responders attempted live-saving procedures on Short, but he was pronounced dead by paramedics.
3 other offenders were taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries
Short was convicted of second-degree murder in 2017. He was serving a 31-year sentence after pleading guilty to killing a 2-year-old girl when he was 17 years old, reports WFLA-TV.
