FLORIDA- A man has been accused of posing as a Uber driver and raping a girl who was on Spring Break, according to police.
Police say that Shapsly Silencieux, 37, picked up the 18-year-old girl after she got separated from her friends at a restaurant on Saturday, WPLG reports.
The unidentified teen had ordered an Uber, but mistakenly got inside of Silencieux’s car.
Police say before the teen girl got inside of Silencieux’s car she asked him “Are you my driver?” and Silencieux replied “Yes”.
Sgt. DeAnna Greenlaw told WSVN “As they’re driving away, she gets a notification on her phone that her Uber request had been canceled, and she’s been charged a certain fee.”
The girl then asked Silencieux again if he was in fact her Uber driver, and he insisted that he was, but said they had to stop at his house so he could buy gas.
While inside of the apartment, Silencieux forced her into his bathroom and raped her.
Police say that the girl attempted to call Uber but Silencieux grabed her phone and told her that he would drop her where she was staying.
The girl remembered his license plate, and police were able to arrest him.
Silencieux was arrested on suspicion of sexual battery.
