EAST HARLEM- arrested a man Tuesday, who is accused of brutally beating an Asian man.
Jarrod Powell, 49, was charged with two counts of felony assault, say.
Powell was seen on surveillance video pushing Yao Pan Ma, 61, to the ground and repeatedly kicking and punching him in the head, as he laid unconscious near East 125th on Friday.
A driver witnessed the assault and called 911.
Ma was collecting cans from a trash can when was attacked. He was working at a , but lost his job due to the pandemic.
Ma has been in a coma as of Monday.
Powell told reporters in handcuffs, “Him and a couple of other Asians maced me, robbed me.”
Hate crimes against Asians have gone soared. The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating, and Powell hasn’t been charged with a hate crime.
