Stephen Bodine, 41, from Kansas, was sentenced on Monday to 109 years and 6 months in prison for the murder of his girlfriend’s 3 year old son.
Evan Brewer was murdered in May of 2017 in the hands of Bodine and his mother, who knew of the abuse and did nothing to save her son’s life.
According to The Wichita Eagle, Judge Steve Ternes told Bodine at his sentencing “Your acts were disgusting and cowardly and monstrous.”
The boys mother, Miranda Miller, testified in court that the child had been sick for days. Miller continued by testifying that he had collapsed, after he was beaten and forced to stand up against a wall for hours. It was then that Bodine had slapped the child witha ll his force as punishment, then taking the boy into the bathroom to stop him from crying.
Miller testified that when Bodine came out of the bathroom, he was holding the child who was unresponsive and wet. He then buried the boys decaying body in concrete, located in the couples laundry room. Four months later, the landlord had visited the home and upon smelling a foul odor rising from the floor, he contacted the police where they they found the boys body.
During their investigation, authorities had discovered thousands of photos and videos of Evan being tortured, according to a court affidavit.
In an image from a video dated March 12, Evan was shown naked on a concrete floor, with his arms and hands behind his back and what had appeared to be a leather belt around his neck, according to the affidavit.
Bodine was charged with first-degree murder.
As part of a plea deal, Miller pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, child abuse, child endangerment and aggravated kidnapping in Nov. She’s facing up to 27 years in prison.
