NORTH CAROLINA- A man who pleaded guilty to murdering a 5-year-old boy in an unprovoked attack has avoided the death penalty after pleading guilty and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Darius Sessoms, 25, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder Thursday for the 2020 shooting of 5-year-old Cannon Hinnant, reports WRAL-TV.
Sessoms walked to Cannon, who was his neighbor, and shot the boy point-blank range as the boy was riding his bike in front of his 7-year-old and 8-year-old sisters.
The story took a turn when the boy’s father said Sessoms was friendly with them and had been to their house the night before to drink a beer.
Sessoms’ parents said they believe he was on drugs and having hallucinations when he killed Cannon.
