FLORIDA- A man who served the longest sentence for a non-violent Marijuana crime has been freed.
Richard DeLisi, 71, was released on Tuesday, after serving 31 years out of his 90-year sentence for trafficking marijuana from Colombia to Florida in 1988.
DeLisi, and his brother were both charged with racketeering, trafficking and conspiracy in a sting operation.
DeLisi’s release is due to the hard work from those at the Last Prisoner Project. A group of lawyers who advocate on behalf of prisoner’s who have been given harsh sentences for drug charges.
Ted DeLisi’s was released in 2013, after winning an appeal.
