Maryland police officer charged with rape and transferring HIV to victim

MARYLAND- A former police officer has been charged with rape and transferring HIV to his victim, after a two month investigation by authorities.

Maryland police say that 30-year-old Martique Vanderpool raped a woman after pulling her over last Sept.

According to authorities, Vanderpool had the woman’s vehicle towed, and that after arresting her, he took her back to his precinct where he allegedly “demanded the victim engage in a sex act or be arrested.”

It was then that Vanderpool, whose HIV positive, had sex with the victim.

Afterwards, he still gave her citations and then took he to a impound lot to get her vehicle back.

Vanderpool resigned in Dec.

The victim, whose identity is being withheld for her protection, was given medication to hopefully prevent her from getting HIV.

Vanderpool was indicted on 11 counts that include first-degree rape, knowingly attempting to expose someone to HIV, reckless endangerment and misconduct in office.

It’s not sure how much time he’s facing…
