ILLINOIS- A missing grad student whose body was found in the Illinois river died from drowning, according to the Coroner’s office, but how he drowned remains a mystery.

Jelani Day, 25, disappeared under mysterious circumstances before his body was discovered last month and his family are demanding more answers.

Day, who was attending Illinois State University, vanished after he was last seen at a marijuana dispensary on Aug. 24. His car was later found abandoned, covered by trees.

The student’s body was found in the river on Sept. 4. His body was so decomposed, he was identified using dental records.

The coroners office said they found no evidence of strangulation, gunshot wounds or assault, the Chicago Tribune reported.

On Tuesday, more 300 people, including Rev. Jesse Jackson, marched from the Peru Police Dept., calling for a deeper investigation, the Tribune said.

According to Day’s mother, her son didn’t commit suicide and he knew how to swim.
