ILLINOIS- A woman is accused of smothering her newborn baby and burying the body in her backyard.
Alvory C. Chavez Ramos, 23, gave birth to the baby in a bathtub in her home between Oct. 31 and Nov. 30, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Police say Chavez Ramos “allegedly placed her hand over the child’s nose and mouth to prevent family members in the home from discovering the baby.” When the newborn stopped moving, Chavez Ramos allegedly placed the baby boy in a plastic bag and buried him in backyard.
The baby’s remains were discovered in May, 2021, after the sheriff’s office began an investigation.
His cause of death was determined to be asphyxia and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.
Chavez Ramos was determined to be the mother of the baby through DNA. She told police that she hid her pregnancy, because she feared her family would be upset with her.
She has been charged with first-degree murder.
