Mother charged after 14-year-old daughter is fatally shot

FLORIDA- A mother has been charged with aggravated manslaughter after she shot and killed her 14-year-old daughter.

Charges against 34-year-old Amanda Guthrie were upgraded on Thursday after her daughter, Ayva Guthrie, was taken off of life support.

Ayva died on Wednesday, according to an online fundraiser to help with her funeral and medical expenses.

Authorities say that the teen died from a gunshot to her head.

According to WJXT, officials conveyed that a gun went off as Ayva was handing it to her mother.

The case has been listed as a “non-murder homicide”.

In addition to Amanda being charged with aggravated manslaughter on a minor by culpable negligence, she has also been charged with child neglect, shooting in a dwelling and armed possession of more than 20 grams of Marijuana.
