CHICAGO – A mother has been arrested, after police say she fatally stabbed her daughter.
Police arrested Simone Austin, 27, on Saturday with one count of first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of her 5-year-old daughter, Serenity Arrington.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Arrington suffered multiple stab wounds to her neck. Her death was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner’s office.
Authorities believe that Austin slit her daughter’s throat inside of their home, before carrying her outside, and placing on the street before firefighters found her.
Austin was immediately arrested when officer’s arrived on the scene.
Authorities have no motive for the murder, and are working with the Dept. of Children & Family Services to determine if Austin had a history of mental illness.
