HOUSTON, TEXAS – A mother who abandoned her newborn baby in a dumpster says she did it because she feared her boyfriend would break it off with her.
Everilda Cux-Ajtzalam, 18, was arrested and charged with a felony offense of abandoning a child in Texas on July 21, according to police.
Cux-Ajtzalam, a food truck employee, gave birth to her baby “on the ground” behind the food truck where she worked, authorities said. The baby was born the same day first responders found him in the dumpster. The newborn was found “inside the trash bag.”
A person passing by the dumpster, heard cries coming from the baby and called 911.
Cux-Ajtzalam told investigators that she “had no other choice” but to get rid of the newborn “because she didn’t want her boyfriend to break up with her,” an affidavit alleges.
The baby survived and is doing well.
Cux-Atzalam is being held on a $200,000 bond.
