Her son, Sterling, was found in a maggot filled diaper in August of 2017, according to investigators, he was in his diaper for about 9 to 14 days.

Assistant Attorney General Coleman McAlliste said in court that the feces had attracted maggots, rupturing his skin, which caused him to be infected with E.Coli.

He was also found extremely underweight, weighing less than 7 pounds.

An EMT who was at the scene, testified in court that when she went into the home, the room where the baby was found was hot and reeked of urine. She also said that when she removed the baby’s blanket, gnats “flew into the air.”

According to wcfcourier.com, a neighbor testified in court that the father hadn’t called police, after finding out his son was deceased. She said that he was outside smoking a cigarette. He told her “my baby is gone, we don’t know what to do at this point.” That’s when she told him to call 911.

“His eyes were open, and it was a blank stare,” the neighbor said, adding that the mother didn’t show emotion, and when she touched the baby, his clothes were crusty.

The father, whose name is Zachary Koehn, was also charged and sentenced to life in prison, without parole.
