HOUSTON- A murder suspect has been released from jail because he told the judge he fears he’s going to get COVID-19.
29-year-old David Cruz was released by a judge on Thursday during his pretrial bond hearing after he requested a bail reduction because he feared that the Coronavirus would “spread like wildfire” throughout the county jail he was going to stay at.
Cruz asked the judge of course through his lawyer if his bond of $60,000 could be reduced to $30,000 and also asked to have electronic monitoring along with pretrial supervision.
Well, the judge agreed.. Cruz actually left the courthouse without posting any bond up front.
Cruz is being accused of killing his friend Christian Tristian, 27, last August, in his home. Tristian was found dead near his front door with a single gunshot wound to his head.
The victims mother is in complete shock and filled with anger towards the suspect, and mostly the judge.
